Hi, I’m Lisa! I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, certified in perinatal mental health and school counseling, hold a doctorate in Counselor Education from UCF, and am poised to help you on your journey, should I be a good fit for you. I’ll start by giving you a little information about my background, education, interests in the field, and some of what to expect when working with me.

My background

I have an academic background in education, psychology and clinical mental health counseling through Stetson University and the University of Central Florida. I’ve worked in a variety of settings including K-12 school system, hospital crisis unit, and private practice as a teacher, high school counselor, and mental health counselor. I am passionate about working with and researching perinatal mental health, trauma and anxiety-related disorders, as well as personality disorders and how these elements impact the family unit. I’m a person-centered counselor and use evidence-based practices rooted in CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic therapy to help clients move forward in session. I take a relational cultural approach to building connections with clients that support vulnerability and honor their lived experiences as foundational to the healing process. I have seen my clients grow in amazing ways and am privileged to take part in the work they can accomplish in counseling.

Clinical Training

I have advanced training in perinatal mental health, EMDR (eye movement, desensitization, and reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Acceptance and Commitment therapy and trauma-informed care. Through the process, I work with clients to determine goals, objectives, and positive interventions based on their specific needs.

Format

I am fully virtual. No worries, for most people, teletherapy feels just as right as face-to-face. It can also provide some benefits over in-person therapy and there is research that supports the efficacy of this format. Please let me know if you have specific questions about the virtual setting.

Teaching Philosophy

In the classroom, I take a strengths-based, student-centered approach using experiential activities as well as Socratic method to explore concepts, build relationships, and cultivate a foundation of respect.

Supervision

My philosophy of supervision integrates Relational Cultural Theory and the Integrated Developmental Supervision Model. I understand the importance of meeting supervisees where they are in their development as counseling professionals, while fostering positive working relationships with a deep respect for who they are as individuals.

Scholarly Productivity

I am currently engaged in ongoing research related to the perinatal mental health field, advocacy in healthcare, school counseling, and multicultural competencies in counseling.
